It does not record all the shows it has been asked to. It mysteriously
simply doesn't record some shows.
After a week or two of recording properly, it simply STOPS!
You have to:
delete all scheduled recordings,
then turn the unit off,
unplug it,
wait for 10 seconds,
plug it back in,
and reprogram all your recordings.
Then, it will be OK for another couple of weeks.
Viewing a show while it's recording sucks
If you start to watch a show after the PVR has been recording it for 15
minutes - there is no way to start watching at the beginning. You have
no option but to click Play, then press rewind three times to get it into
fast rewind mode, shield your eyes so you don't spoil the show, then press
play when it gets to the beginning.
Then... When the show finishes while you are watching it - it jumps to
live automatically. This REALLY SUCKS! You have to press LIST, then select
the show, select play, then of course, it starts playing at the beginning -
so you now have to fast-forward through the whole show to get to where you
were, then press play to watch it. This is really silly.
Shows are mysteriously deleted
Shows it has recorded are mysteriously deleted sometimes.
Even better - you see the red "recording" LED turn on, and know that it
is recording your show - then when you go to watch it later - IT'S NOT
THERE!
Lots of glitches while viewing
Skip a commerical and the sound stops working. You have to stop
playback, and restart it for the sound to work again.
Can't navigate easily while watching a show
No way to jump around while watching a show - like jump 15 minutes
ahead, (relative positioning)
No way to jump to a specific location in a show -like jump to 50
minutes. (absolute positioning)
No indication of space remaining on disk
No indication of how much hard disk space remains - until the disk is
full - only then do you get a warning!
This has been fixed on the 8300 model.
Doesn't save where you were in a show
Doesn't remember where you were in a show if you return to watch later.
This piece of info should be saved for each and every show! When you return
to watch the show, you should be able to choose "Play from beginning" or
just Play - which would play from the current location.
